Laptop Efficiency Simply Blows Away an Old Fashioned PC

In the late 1990′s technology had reached the point where computers were in the majority of homes. People fancied themselves technologically light-years ahead of their parent’s generation even before laptops and cell phones became commonplace. However, there are still segments of the population reluctant to give up their large PC tower and monitor for a laptop. Yes, it appears that there are still those who need some convincing to buy a laptop. Here are several reasons why it may not make sense to wait when the time for a laptop is now.

  1. Surfing the net: We all surf the net, but you hardly need a 50 pound unit to do so. We all have interests we like to indulge while browsing the internet and there is no shortage of information on any topic. Open source programs found on the internet enable us to use laptops to their full capacity like FileZilla, a file sharing program across FTP platforms and Ares another very popular file sharing program. These allow the user to download large files quickly and easily.  A laptop allows you to be mobile and not to only be able to surf the net from one room.
  2. Watch TV on your laptop: Perhaps the fastest rising trend with computers is getting your TV on the computer. Indeed, as stations and cable providers do war over which providers will carry which channels and for how much, internet viewers can scoff at the bickering. As long as the TV show is still being made, it is likely available for download, and it is likely available for free.
  3. Editing and home videos: Many people only think of laptops are surfing devices or a mechanism for hearing new music. In fact, a laptop offers you the same capability as a larger PC to do things like edit family pictures or videos, work, conduct research, or pursue a hobby. VLC, an open source software program is very beneficial in  making downloads of multimedia possible and can convert the media into any format to be viewed on your Laptop. Xvid is a similar program and both make transferring and downloading multimedia like movies and videos a breeze.
  4. Many programs on a conventional computer can take up a lot of space and sometimes using an open source program like Open Office, a full word processing suite similar to Microsoft Office does the same job if not better and it is free, often taking up less space on the hard drive and is perfect for laptop users and Netbook users in particular.

Laptops are easy to transport, cost efficient, and very capable units. Making the switch will lighten your load as you lose the bulk of the computer tower you’ve been dealing with all these years.
